Bringing Routers and Modems together in style

ROOter Modems

Modems Supported by ROOter

One of the goals of ROOter was to support as many modems as possible and allow them to operate at their maximum speed. To this end we have constantly added new modems to the supported list. This started with support for many 3G modems and has since expanded to include most popular 4G models as well.

Rooter has support for two different categories of USB Cellular modems, regular and hostless.

Regular modems are those that require special software in order to interface with them and are controlled completely by the router firmware. Special commands must be sent to these modems in order to have them connect to the Provider's Network. If used on a computer, they usually have a program called a Dashboard that you use to connect, disconnect and view information about the modem.

Hostless modems are also known as Hilink modems, Wifi modems or Wingles. They do not require any special software to control them and you access them through your web browser. These modems automatically connect to the Provider's Network using information that you set using the web browser access. They appear on your network as an Ethernet device similar to a computer. Many of these modems have their own Wifi that you can connect to and get Internet access.

As well as modems, ROOter also has support for tethered Android phones. You can connect your phone to your router using a USB cable and use it to provide Internet to your Network.

Regular Modems

Almost every modem from Huawei, Sierra and ZTE is supported by ROOter. A number of other manufacturer's modems are also supported. If you are in doubt as to your modem being supported, go to the ROOter forum and ask about it there. The following is a list of some of the modems that ROOter supports. Many other models from these manufacturers that are not listed here will also work with ROOter.

Android Phones

Any Android phone that allows tethering can used with ROOter to provide Internet to the network.

To tether your phone to a ROOter, plug in a USB cable between the phone and the router. Then, on the phone, go to Settings->Wireless & networks > Tethering & portable hotspot and check USB Tethering. The rest is done automatically by ROOter.
